| JOB PURPOSE
-To acquire, at optimal cost and lead-times, all external purchases to support TTS, MES and Special Direct business units. -To drive the development of the Purchasing processes and systems to meet current and future business needs. -To provide managerial support to the purchasing team so that delivery performance continually improves and customer service excellence is ensured. JOB CONTEXT The Purchasing Manager reports directly to the Purchasing Director. TTS is continuing to rapidly grow and needs to ensure that it continues to be able to support the companys objectives through ensuring low cost product that matches all quality and product standards. In order to ensure reduced costs a programme is underway of negotiation with key suppliers and resourcing product to low cost countries, mainly China and India. However, it is also essential that conformance to product quality and on time delivery is maintained. TTS launches approximately 20 catalogues each year and the Purchasing Manager has a key role in ensuring the success of these catalogues through introduction of the products selected by Product Marketing, ensuring reduced costs and availability of all products at catalogue launch. Our diverse range of products purchased from numerous suppliers and volatile seasonal demand, mean that responding quickly to change is a prerequisite for success. It is essential that the Purchasing Manager demonstrates enthusiasm and is self motivated as they will have to operationally manage an area while introducing new product ranges, encouraging a culture of adaptability and flexibility whilst maintaining excellent customer service levels. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES Oversee the management and development of the Purchasing team Responsibility for availability of product, ensuring timely order placement and expediting Drive cost reduction initiatives, delivering sustainable gross margin improvements through negotiation and resourcing of product to low cost countries (ie China) Manage supplier selection and assessment to ensure competitiveness, high quality and service levels, ensuring compliance to product safety standards and ethical conformance Provision of regular and timely supplier performance feedback Manage inventory levels inline with business plan and budgetary targets Adopt a continuous improvement focus within Purchasing and the wider TTS ensuring improvement to product quality and improved customer satisfaction Manage the introduction of new products ensuring 95% availability at catalogue launch Deliver the supply chain elements of large one off products JOB DIMENSIONS / STATISTICS Budget responsibilities: Purchasing budget FY07 = £9m, Circa 900 suppliers and 9500 products Management of 1 Buyer and 4 Material Controllers Inventory Management of stock value up to £2.5m Negotiation of Supplier Contracts Vendor Selection and Development Quality Assurance / Product Safety and Ethical Compliance KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE Management experience, plus purchasing experience. Degree in Business/Management and/or professional purchasing qualification e.g. CIPS. (or equivalent) Good technical skills, including confident use of Excel and Access. Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills, with ability to work closely with and influence others (product managers, suppliers as well as line manager, peers and direct reports). Strong financial and commercial awareness. Ability to define and implement significant changes affecting other business areas. |
